Jon E. Grant, J.D., M.D., M.P.H.

Jon Grant is professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota and co-director of the Impulse Control Disorders Clinic at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. He is a board-certified psychiatrist. Dr. Grant received his law degree from Cornell University, a masters in public health degree from Harvard University School of Public Health and an M.D. from Brown University.

Dr. Grant has expertise in the clinical assessment and treatment of pathological gambling and a range of impulsive behaviors, including the development of cognitive-behavioral therapy for pathological gambling. He is the author of more than 135 peer-reviewed publications. In addition, Dr. Grant was co-editor, with Marc Potenza, of two books published by the American Psychiatric Association, Pathological Gambling: A Clinical Guide to Treatment (2004) and A Textbook of Men’s Mental Health (2006). His latest book is Impulse Control Disorders: A Clinician’s Guide to Understanding and Treating Behavioral Addictions (2008).

Dr. Grant has received research grants from multiple sources including the National Institutes of Health, pharmaceutical companies, the National Center for Responsible Gaming and other foundations. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Gambling Studies and serves on the editorial boards of the Annals of Clinical Psychiatry and the American Journal on Addictions. In 2004, Dr. Grant was honored by the National Center for Responsible Gaming for his outstanding contributions to the field of gambling research with the NCRG Scientific Achievement Award in the Young Investigator category.
